Add PPA for Faenza Icon Theme

Faenza is a popular icon theme for Linux. It also works on the newest Ubuntu release, Oneiric Ocelot. Faenza icon set can help you to beautify the look of your unity. It also work in Gnome 3.2. To install Faenza, you must add a new PPA for your Ubutu, equinox – if you’ve never done it. Follow these steps to add the PPA (type the commands bellow in your Terminal):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox

Ubuntu Application Launcher: GNOME Pie

There are many application launchers from a third party, such as Synapse, Launchy, and Do. Looks like the list will grow with the inclusion of another launcher app, GNOME Pie.

GNOME Pie is a Ubuntu application launcher that works based on the combination of a keyboard (fully customizable). You press a keyboard combination and a “Pie" will appear (circular animation launcher). Click one app’s shortcut within the Pie to launch an app. These shortcuts are named "Slices".

Youtube to mp3 in Easy Way

If you want to change from Youtube to mp3, then I recommend you to use utube2mp3. It will help you to extract mp3 files from Youtube. Oops, I forgot. This small utility works in Ubuntu environment.

Firstly, you should download the utube2mp3 binary, make it executable, and create shortcuts on the Desktop (optional). Go to Terminal and type the following command:

Install OpenShift Express on Windows 7

Some times ago, we have discussed about how to install Linux app on Windows using Cygwin. For now, we are talking about how to install OpenShift Express on Windows 7. To achieve our goals, we still use the same helper programs, Cygwin.

Follow these instructions:

1. Download the Ruby here.
2. Download rubygems here, move to C:\cygwin\home\[USER], run your Cygwin, and extract it using “tar zxf rubygems-xxx.tgz”.

Install Book Lens for Unity’s Dash

One feature that is helpful from Unity is the Dash. The Dash can help users to find information quickly, either locally (bookmarks, recent files, installed applications, etc) or remotely (Google Docs, Twitter, etc).

This quick search can be presented because the Dash has one or more Lenses. One Lens only gives one category of search result for the Dash. You can search the Lens category from the Dash home screen or through Lens’ page in the Dash. To go to the Lens’ page in Dash, you can click on the icon of the Lens Bar.

Because this post discusses Books Lens, so we'll just add a special Lens for the books category. For other Lens categories, you can find it yourself, see the previous paragraph.

Flash Player Problem in Ubuntu

Previously when I got a flash player problem in Ubuntu, I did uninstall flash player and re-install it again. That I used to fix the flash player. Since yesterday, I found simpler method to get rid of it. I used Flash Doctor, a script to fix the flash problem automatically.

Now you can install flash using Flash Doctor for fully and safely, also you can get advanced flash control panel. To install Flash Doctor in Ubuntu, type these commands in your Terminal.

Recovery Mode from Bad Update in Ubuntu

Previously we have discussed how to reset Ubuntu password. Now we are going to discuss the recovery mode from bad update in Ubuntu. Some of the impact you would had encountered after got a bad update include the non-functioning USB port and sound card.

Some cases mention the loss of Network Manager. If you are part of the “victim” of bad update in Ubuntu, follow these steps:

1. Restart your Ubuntu, press the Shift key to get the boot menu and boot to the recovery mode.

Install Linux App on Windows Using Cygwin

In this post, I will share you how to install Linux app on your Windows computer. We use Cygwin to do it. If you are a Linux user and want to run Windows applications, surely you know the Wine. Cygwin is a similar program to Wine, but has the opposite function. It works in Windows environment, not in Linux.

Ubuntu Music Player: Audacious 3.0.3 and 3.1 Alpha

Looking for Ubuntu Oneiric music player that uses little memory and looks clean? So I would recommend you for Audacious. In addition to having a clean appearance, it also has an interface similar to Winamp.

Reset Your Ubuntu Password

For some reasons, you might want to reset your Ubuntu password, here the steps to get it done:
First, reboot into recovery mode. If Ubuntu is the only OS in your PC, you have to hold down the Shift key during bootup to get the boot menu.

If you use a dual-boot (Ubuntu and other OS), so the boot menu should appear without the need to hold down the Shift key.
