Start Windows Installer in Safe Mode

If you are a Microsoft Windows user you must be familiar with the Safe Mode. Sometimes boot in the Safe Mode becomes a necessity when repairing computers like to do a System Restore and more.

Unfortunately, in Safe Mode you can not install or remove programs because Windows Installer is disabled by default. To start Windows Installer in Safe Mode so you can install or remove programs, follow these steps:
  1. Boot in Safe Mode.
  2. Click Start > Run > and type “regedit” without quotes followed by pressing the Enter button.
  3. Find the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\
  4. Right click on the Minimal folder > New > Key.

  5. Type “msiserver” and press Enter.
  6. Click on msiserver folder we created, double click the (Default) in the right column, in the Value data: type in “Service” without quotes and click OK.
  7. Close the Registry editor.
  8. Press Windows + R in your keyboard together, type in net start "Windows Installer" and press Enter.

Add/remove programs window will appear. You can now install something like antivirus even from the Safe Mode. That’s all how to start Windows Installer in Safe Mode. Hope it useful.
