Windows 8 and Windows 7, Dual Boot in One PC

Happy weekend techno46 readers. In this post we will discuss how to make dual boot in our PC, Windows 8 and Windows 7. I assume you have previously installed Windows 7 on your computer, and you have at least 20GB of free space on your hard disk.

Let’s start it.
  1. Download Microsoft Windows 8 Developer Preview, click here (32-bit) and here (64-bit).
  2. Create a new partition for your Windows 8, I recommend to use 20GB of our free space or at least 16GB free space (for Windows 8 32-bit). Click Start-menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right-click on Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator -> type in “diskmgmt.msc” and press the Enter button.

  3. Right-click free space that we have prepared earlier, click New Simple Volume -> Give our recent created partition with 20GB -> Assign the Drive Letter -> Format the partitions using NTFS.
  4. Burn the downloaded Windows 8’s ISO file on a DVD as a bootable disk using UltaISO, PowerISO, or you can create a Windows 8 bootable flash drive (in the next post maybe :)).
  5. Insert the Windows 8 bootable DVD into DVD-ROM, reboot your PC, select DVD-ROM as your first boot order, and install Windows 8 to our recently partition for Windows 8.
  6. After installation finished, we can choose Windows 8 Developer Preview or Windows 7 as operating system we will use at Windows Startup.
