View Lion Recovery Partition

In this post, I will share how to view the Lion Recovery Partition. It can be done by making the hidden debug feature to be enabled in your Disk Utility. The hidden debug feature we talked about was the “Show every partition” in the Disk Utility.

This method can also be used to view all hidden partitions in Mac OS X like Windows Recovery partition, Linux Swap, and so on. Follow these steps:
  1. Launch the Terminal and type in this command:
    defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1
  2. Launch the Disk Utility > click Debug > Show every partition until it check marked.
    View Lion Recovery Partition
  3. In the left column, you should view the Lion Recovery Partition and other hidden partition colored in gray.
That’s all how to view Lion Recovery Partition. If you want to mount it, just right-click the selected partition and choose Mount “Drive Name”.

Hidden partitions are usually important for recovery purpose, so I advise you to hide them like its default state. Type in this command to do it:
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 0
Oh ya, the command above should be typed in the Terminal :). Hope it useful.
